Pairpoint and ryd partner to Fuel the Future of In-Vehicle Payments

September 12, 2024 – We are thrilled to announce a strategic collaboration between Pairpoint, the world’s leading Economy of Things (EoT) company, and ryd, a pioneering mobility company. This partnership aims to create seamless and secure in-vehicle payment experiences for drivers across Europe.

Transforming In-Vehicle Payments

Pairpoint’s cutting-edge platform for SIM-based, secure IoT transactions, combined with ryd’s payment expertise and extensive network of service stations, car-wash providers and EV charging operators, will enable companies in the automotive and mobility sectors to offer in-car payments at scale. This solution eliminates the need for additional hardware, reducing costs and maintenance, while providing a secure, frictionless payment experience for drivers.

David Palmer, Chief Product Officer of Pairpoint, commented: “Our partnership has the potential to fundamentally reshape the landscape for in-car payments, leveraging the scale of cellular technologies to support a new generation of automated, embedded vehicle payments.”

Uli Kiendl, CEO of ryd, commented: Partnering with Pairpoint is a great opportunity to further expand our network and connect with new partners. Fuelling, washing, and charging are only the beginning. At ryd, we’re committed to offering a full range of car-related payment services. Working with Pairpoint helps ryd integrate our services into even more cars in the future.

Seizing a Major Market Opportunity

The in-vehicle payments market is projected to reach $580 billion by 2030, according to STL Partners. With Vodafone, Pairpoint’s majority shareholder, already connecting 43 million vehicles, this partnership is well-positioned to combine these connected cars with Ryd’s services, unlocking significant potential across Europe.

Unlocking New Opportunities for Automakers

Shifting payments to the vehicle opens new business models for automakers, allowing them to bundle vehicle-related services with purchases and subscriptions. It also supports the growing global fleet market by enabling secure, in-vehicle payments using the SIM embedded in cars. This innovation positions Pairpoint and ryd to help the automotive industry unlock new revenue streams and deliver an enhanced driver experience. Today, this includes in-car fuelling payments, and in the future, it will expand to autonomous vehicle payments, where cars can pay for services independently.
